Who we are?
We who privately rent out the cabins are Snickar Mats and Maria Andersson. Snickar is a farm name that is passed down according to typical Dala tradition.
Already in the 70s, Snickar Mats Andersson worked with service, then as an innkeeper at the hotel Olarsängen (now Olarsgården). It was there that Maria (née Sjögren) came as the leader of a ski tour group during a sports holiday. We got married on Ascension Day in 1983 and soon moved to our private, self-built house in Malung, where we still live. Three children and a handful of grandchildren, so far.
Since the early 1980s, the family business Snickar Andersson has run various service-related business activities in the municipality of Malung-Sälen in western Dalarna, such as catering, gas station and berry freezing.
The first rental cabin, the one in Gruven, was built with local craftsmen back in 1989. The cabin at Sälfjällstangen was built ten years later, in 1999. Almost all the material for the houses is locally produced. All the wood for the buildings comes from the family’s private lands. A large part of the furnishings in the cottages is handmade by local, skilled craftsmen. As far as possible, the cabins are on building materials and furnishings with consideration for the environment. The houses in both Gruven and Tangen are heated with geothermal energy.
We at Snickar Andersson have chosen to be small-scale and personal as a private landlord, without expensive and anonymous intermediaries. This means that we ourselves ensure that everything works as it should in and around the houses. Above all, it is important to us that our guests feel comfortable and that we get a personal relationship with our tenants. Therefore, as a lessor, we choose not to have any automatic booking.
We hope and believe that the guests appreciate the human contact.
