🌲 Explore Hiking & Mountain Trails

Sälen is famous for its extensive network of marked hiking and mountain trails, perfect for walkers of all levels.

• Discover routes with panoramic views across the Sälen Mountains, including loops, day hikes and multi-day treks.
• The southern section of the famous Kungsleden Trail starts by Högfjällshotellet, offering iconic Swedish mountain hiking.
• Högfjällsturen is a hiking and biking trail that runs between Hundfjället and Lindvallen, right outside our cabin in Gruven .

With varied terrain and well-maintained paths, hiking around our cabins is an unforgettable way to enjoy nature.

🌿 Nature Reserves, Parks & Open Landscapes

Pristine nature reserves and striking natural landscapes surround our Sälen cabins:

• Storfjället Nature Reserve with vast open plateaus and alpine flora.
• Östfjället Nature Reserve, where forest meets mountains and small lakes.
• Sälens botanical garden. Although not a nature reserve, this park exhibits >1300 plants inherent to the alpine conditions of Sälen and European highlands. Open July through September.

These areas are ideal for nature photography, bird watching, and peaceful wilderness walks.

💧 Water & River Activities

The nearby Västerdal River invites you to enjoy water-based outdoor activities, from relaxed picnics to paddling and fishing.
Boating, kayaking and riverside trails provide an active way to connect with nature during your stay.

🌿Berry and mushroom picking

In Sälen, you can pick cloudberries (July–August), blueberries (August) and lingonberries (August–September) in forests and wetlands. You will also find crowberries on the mountain heaths. The area offers excellent opportunities for mushroom picking—including chanterelles and boletes—in the beautiful mountain landscape during late summer and autumn, guided by Sweden’s Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten). Please remember that this privilege comes with a responsibility.

Fresh air makes a man hungry and sometimes even thirsty. During the winter season, most of the restaurants are available.
